The Road to Templecon

So my road to Templecon is full of late night painting, some swear words and then just pride.  My minis will be painted for the con.  Maybe not as well as I'd like them to but painted non the less!

The Great Cookie Swap

This year I participated in the food blogger cookie swap in an unofficial way. One of my best friend's was stuck up in Ottawa and was unable to complete the cookies so I threw some good old creativity into them and created: Release the Kraken! Drunken cherry, chocolate cookies. Which were very very yum and definitely something I'd make again!

If you would like the recipe head on over here to take a look.

Knit Picks Interchangable Review

I've been playing with knitting needles I came across inter-changeable circular needles, the ones I've gotten to play with are the Knit Picks Nickle Plated Circular needles. Here is the picture of the set I've been playing with. If you are looking to pick up a set there are many on the market but these are the ones from Knit Picks.

The only problem I've had with this set was something that's an easy fix. Whenever I was knitting they started to undo themselves, it got infuriating, I was losing stitches and I honestly had started to dislike these needles because of it. It wasn't until my mother and I expressed our distaste for the needles that we got shown by the lovely owner of Rosehaven Yarn Shop who was a wonderful woman to chat with, as well as very knowledgeable. I met her at her stall in the CreativeFest.

The fix! You see that small metal thingamajig? (Yes that is a technical term!) Well that is what you use to make the needles stop undoing while knitting.

Put together and awaiting the final step before an awesome project.

Pin in the needles, you use it to help provide more torque, allowing you to tighten it enough to allow the needles to not undo.

This is how you may turn it, if you need to change the needles, just insert and and turn.

Aside from that little bump in the road I love these needles, and am looking forward to getting the wooden set soon.

Cowl!

So a post a little while back was the starts of a cowl!

I did indeed finish it and it's one of my favorite things to wear evers!

It keeps me very warm and I think the colour suits me.

Speaking of knitting! I managed to knit a rather cunning hat for a friend's birthday! Stay tuned and you shall see the tutorial and the progress shots, as well as the finished project.

Toodles!

Wow

So I guess I haven't been on here much, I'm hoping to change that a bit!

So what have I been doing with myself?

Well my now ex and I have split, though I wish him the best as I do with all my exes at this point.

I've been helping a friend out with some commissions, which has kinda sparked my want to bake again.

I've been playing Warmachine, and Minecraft, have gotten into Magic, and High Command.

I've been living life as best I know how, that involves being able to explore myself further. I'm currently dating some wonderful people. People that want what's best for me, and I for them. Lovely nerdy people who I think the world of!

I'm still doing the whole camping thing, and knitting my little butt off so I will show some progress reports on that sooooooooon. I might be making a change onto Wordpress but I haven't fully decided that yet.

Knit knit knit!

Hello hello!

Since I've been so busy with prepping for the move, camping and vacation I haven't been around much.  I haven't been doing much nerdtastic things but I have been knitting!
This is a progress shot of the cowl I'm making whilst on vacation and enjoying the beach!
So far within a few days I've almost finished it.
As soon as I'm done it I'm starting a Firefly themed hat for myself and quite possibly a few as Christmas hats since I have enough yarn to make a few.

Happy birthday to meeeee!

Happy birthday to meeeeeee!

It’s been an interesting year so far, I’ve survived things I didn’t think I would and have done things I’ve been terrified of. All and all it’s been a wonderful experience and I wouldn’t change anything.
I’ve managed to explore my needs and my wants. Found out things I never knew about myself and have had many new experiences.

This year I celebrated a bit differently. I played a league night at the game store my friends and I go to, and I got to have my birthday lunch with my wonderful best friend who came home for me.

I got my butt kicked, as per usual xP But had a blast and got some wonderful gifts that were all from the heart.

The Hand Off

Soooooo I do other things aside from being a nerdy person.

I'm a Scout leader well I'm a Beaver Leader so I get to run around with 5-8 year olds, do crafts, games and create general chaos. (All super fun-times.)

Let me tell you I was never going to get into this I was going to go to school for Music and I was going to teach High School. My fantastic friend schemed, plotted and decided that  I needed to work with younger youth and convinced me to God forbid run a Beaver Colony...

It's been hectic, stressful, crazy, loud, and a whole bunch of organized chaos and seriously that is just the leaders... It's also been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! I've learned more from these kids than I was ever able to teach them. They helped me grow up this year and become an adult, which is a feat on its own. It's a different experience when you are responsible for children that go up to mid-thigh, they scream, they sometimes cry, fall down, fight, but they laugh without care, they tell you what they really think and they are free from many things.

I had to hand over the Beaver colony this December because I was no longer able to keep up with my duties and move away to school. I left it in good hands but I still feel a deep sadness for having to leave these kids. This is purely selfish because I think that they are the greatest, and were the brightest part of my weeks.

At our holiday party we made icing covered gingerbread men... and I really do mean COVERED. Giving kids sugar apparently leads to icing everywhere, who knew? Well I did but I didn't tell my fellow leaders that. Though in my defense I did warn them about small rolly things!

We had an absolute blast playing games, decorating cookies and singing songs. I'll miss them all terribly but when I come back I'll be able to watch what they've grown into as well as be able to better teach and mold younger ones.

Awesomely Weird Tournament

A few weeks ago I had the please to join in a very strange tournament at the game store I frequent. It was a Santa themed amazeballs Thunderdome type event! It was loud, fast, and so much fun! Seriously! I had a blast with these guys.

I rather um... intelligently decided that I was going to play this tournament the day before my big move (another post, another time). Now this tournament was rather difficult, let me explain some rules then post a picture which I am very much so stealing from Lost Hemisphere who has a fantastic podcast of nerdiness!

So rules!

You may bring 5 casters, 3 must fight per round, you get heads that other people take from you when they kill you. The one with the most kills wins.

This tournament was the brain child of Captain Spud.

Simple right? Yes, but amazingly fun and crazy amounts of weird! The point of this is to act fast and kill things.

I made the mistake of taking casters I had never played before, not the best of ideas, but I did learn how to play them rather well after the end of the day.

Here are some photos of the board and game play:

A Very Wintery Paint Exchange

At the game store I go to they had a winter season paint exchange, this allows players to paint outside of their factions and enjoy seeing what other people in the store's community can do. I was given the Iron Lich Overseer from the Cryx faction, now if you don't know much about Warmachine let me tell you this. Cryx are very mean, undead meanies! Well not all undead but mostly. I've been use to painting rather living models so this was a change for me. Fun, but still a change.

I painted it to the best of my ability, I think next time I get a Cryx model to paint I will be able to do it much better.

Here is a photo of the completed figure (again stolen from Lost Hemisphere):

And here is the miniature that got painted for me (which I am so very in love with!):

There are many more photos of the paint jobs on Lost Hemisphere's facebook page so if you did miniatures I would go check him out.

My ever changing army list and other things!

As the New Year has begun I must say that this past year wasn't what I would expect it to be. It's been filled with ups and downs. I've lost people in my life and even though they aren't in my life any longer I still very much so wish them all the best. This is the year for change and new beginnings! I start school in a few days and boy am I nervous! I'm so lucky to have the people in my life that I do, I don't think I would have been able to make this transition so well without my boyfriend, my friends and family. (Including my game store family). Life changes faster than we know it, one second you are comfortable where you are, the next you are uprooting your life and starting a new adventure!

So I've changed to Menoth! Yes I know Khador is fantastically awesomely beatstick... But lets be real here: I like setting stuff on fire! It makes my inner self squee with excitement and isn't that really what this game is for? To set stuff on fire and take focus for everything on fire? Oh yes did I mention Feora is awesome! Mhm! So here is my Menoth list (so far) I have more casters than I know what to do with so I might keep switching casters out but for now this should keep me busy. I'm going to play it through and paint it for Templecon. It's a 50 point army, let me know what you think.

I'm not one to make resolutions, infact I usually see no point to them. But as this year is a brand new year, lets just put something down here. My goal this year is to take my time on this earth and create more positivity! It's something I feel this world is lacking, so I will make every effort to have my world be more positive! I encourage anyone reading this to do the same.

So let me say this in closing. Happy new beginnings, Happy New Year, Bonne Anné!

Soooooo lets do a quick army change shall we?

I've decided that as much fun as I'm having with Khador I want to try something that isn't just a beat stick army.

Either I haven't been playing them well enough (which is entirely possible) but I'm just not enjoying playing games with them. At the gaming store I go to I found out on of the guys were selling a couple of his boxed sets and he just wanted them to get out of his hands! So next week I will be the proud new owner of ... Wait for it... An awesome Protectorate of Menoth army. *Cue crowd fan fare!*

Yes I know, I have a serious case of altitious! (Meaning I constantly want change.) But it was a really, really good price and now I can battle myself because you know forever alone and all that stuff. XP

Once I have pics of it I will post them, for now I'm working on an army list. So far what I have will just about make a decent, heavy on the jack army.

So lets keep a running tally on how many times I set myself on fire and see what happens!

A Little Tied Up Last Night

Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Nuit Blanche with a good friend. We ended up staying out until about 1:00am then after a quick rest I went back out in our area to explore a bit more. For the past 8 years there has been a night long rope show with a live feed attached if you want to find some information on it, it's called Morpheous' Bondage Extravaganza they have done a wonderful job of pairing rigger's and rope bottoms to create a beautiful show. I highly suggest taking a browse of the website if it's something you are into, because I know I will.

*Cough* Often! *Cough*

I spent a good amount of time at MBE 2013 watching, learning and admiring. In-fact I started and ended my night in the walls of this wonderful place. I'm a bit of a rope fanatic, and some of the stuff these experts can do is breath taking.

Ok, soooooooo I'm going to stop talking about it now before I start drooling.

Update!

So it has been a crazy busy time, what with our Scout group starting up again, planning of upcoming camps, and applying to school, I haven't had as much time to blog.

I have been working on my Khador Army... What else is new? So far I have 20 points and the plans for about 35 points total.... Sooooo that leaves me out of some tournaments but that is A-oK, I'll eventually figure out some more units to add in.

I GOT INTO SCHOOL! I get to learn about how to organize little kids and take care of them in a structured way. I really want to figure out how to add some nerdy things into my daycare plan. xP We  will see how it goes!

Agents of SHIELD Tv show is coming out soon, kinda looking forward to seeing it.

Doctor Who returns soon! Well kinda... The Anniversary special will be airing in November then they don't have a solid release date for season 8... SADNESS!!!

Speaking of Doctor Who I have officially bought 3 new posters which I don't have any pictures of cause I am not putting them up until I move, butbutbut! I have a Tardis poster that is holographic!!!!!!! Eeeeee!

Gaming/Hobby Stores

Let's talk about Gaming and Hobby stores, now here is a pet peeve of mine: when I want to go play games in a store on the scheduled night and I sit in a dark dingy basement that needs a very very VERY good hose down because it smells like sweat and body odor. Almost every gaming/hobby store that has a gaming area has this area in a spot that is off to the side or in the basement and has little to no ventilation!

So when I come across a store that is bright, airy, user friendly, well organized and that makes me want to stay there because of general cleanliness and how the store is laid out I go out of my way to go there!

This store that I found is about an hour and a bit away depending on traffic and it's so very worth it!
1. Warmachine is on a night that doesn't take my weekends away!
2. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!
3. Gaming areas are on the same level as the store.
4. It's a decent size, the boards are pretty good and are kept in nice working order.
5. Super friendly knowledgeable staff and owner!

There are many more points that make me want to go out that way to do it, but I won't bore you with the details!

Why my Khador Army Kicked Butt!

My friend hmmmm for this blog post lets call him Cryx Commander or CC for short, well my friend CC has kicked my army's arse every time we have battled. Everytime without fail, the first couple times he CRUSHED my army, as in there was never any chance of coming back from that without great skill (which I'm currently lacking) or sheer dumb luck.

But my friends I have done the impossible! I kicked his bottom, not even a little I demolished his army! Woot! Now I really don't usually brag but we have played about 10 games now and I think I needed this win. For most other people I would believe that they would let me win but CC wouldn't he believes in logic and doesn't believe in hand holding or coddling someone. Though I will admit again this was mainly due to how over powered my Warcaster is, Vladamir the Dark Prince of Umbrey seriously kicks ass on stats. CC has many more years of Miniature War games under his belt but soon through the skills I have learned from him I'll be able to kick butt everywhere!

Pathfinder ~ To Society or not to Society

Whether tis nobler... oh wait not Shakespeare... Ok!

A few friends and I play a very rousing game of Pathfinder almost every Sunday. We have changed DM's a few times and I think we have finally settled on one, and that is me! Woot! *does little booty dance* I rather enjoy having the control over our game and sending the big scary monsters after my friends and watch them work through how to kill, defeat and succeed. So far since I've been DM nobody has died from the party, this is largely due to the fact we have a fantastic Cleric and well at least two wands of cure light wounds, and one wand of cure moderate.

The group we started with playing has since changed and there has been some graceful exits and some not so graceful ones but all in all Pathfinder has been a wonderful experience in getting me back into gaming.

Last week I sent them on a mission to collect a chest... not my finest work ever to be honest but for some reason I felt really rushed. It's not a normal feeling when we game, I think next time I will just have to be super organized (more so than usual) just to get back into it.

Round 1: Fight! (Battle Report #1)

I found out yesterday that Warmachine has a funny fighting style. It can go quickly if you aren't paying attention AND if you finish your turn and start swearing in your head then well you did something stupid and you and I have a lot more in common than you think!

Now for someone who is use to playing Pathfinder and games like that, miniature war games are different enough to be confusing. I've never played Warhammer or games like it and if I had then maybe I would have had a better outcome to our practice game last night. My friend's Cryx army decimated my Khador forces and I left myself open to having my Warjack do the final blows to my Warcaster, thankfully the roll fell short and saved me that embarrassment!

So now that I saved the embaressment of having my warjack end the game, I left myself open to a melee attack that completely over killed my warcaster, now let me say this: DON'T LET A WARJACK GET INTO MELEE WITH YOUR WARCASTER! *Sigh*

My next battle report will be better, but our duel which when two people know what they are doing is only supposed to take about 20-25 minutes took about an hour.
             LEARNING! YAAAAY!

My Khador army will crush yours!

Soooooooooooo,

my friend decided that he didn't want to play Warmachine alone so he got me into it by purchasing my first
starter kit.

I will admit the description of Khador made me make high pitched squeaky noises, seriously who can resist:
Khador's powerful warjacks epitomize the national ideals of strength and resilience and are as relentless in battle as the frigid winter of their homeland.
Taken straight off of the back of the Khador Battlegroup box.

 *Insert stupid grin*

Okaaaay! So now you know my painfully horrible addiction that has started all of three days ago. Now I must admit the horrible truth... My painting skills suck, it seriously looks like an epileptic monkey spazzed out and threw red paint everywhere. But it is my first go and I'm slowly learning some new techniques. Lets show you the first photo while I hide in shame.

I also am quite aware how bright and out of focus it is... Photos should get better eventually...

What I have realized is that the Khador paint kit didn't have all the colours I saw my army being in, so I bought two full paint kits and a pot of Quick Silver. So now I can make my army of the frigid north shine bright like the snow and ice from their homelands.

I know, I have quite a ways to go before my miniatures army is completed but I am in it for the long haul, and I am looking forward to what it looks like all completed.

Hello World!

Why hello there, my name is Erynith!

What a funny name! Well to be completely honest it isn't my real name! It will be the name I'll go by on here.

You might be lost, or you might be browsing but this will be my little world. Where I will be posting my progress on my miniatures, what craft/DIY thing I have started this week and I will probably be posting things about my life.

If none of these things interest you, have a great day! If they do: well then stay tuned for the craft to hit the wall!

Yours in all Serenity, Erynith
