The Hand Off

Soooooo I do other things aside from being a nerdy person.

I'm a Scout leader well I'm a Beaver Leader so I get to run around with 5-8 year olds, do crafts, games and create general chaos. (All super fun-times.)

Let me tell you I was never going to get into this I was going to go to school for Music and I was going to teach High School. My fantastic friend schemed, plotted and decided that  I needed to work with younger youth and convinced me to God forbid run a Beaver Colony...

It's been hectic, stressful, crazy, loud, and a whole bunch of organized chaos and seriously that is just the leaders... It's also been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! I've learned more from these kids than I was ever able to teach them. They helped me grow up this year and become an adult, which is a feat on its own. It's a different experience when you are responsible for children that go up to mid-thigh, they scream, they sometimes cry, fall down, fight, but they laugh without care, they tell you what they really think and they are free from many things.

I had to hand over the Beaver colony this December because I was no longer able to keep up with my duties and move away to school. I left it in good hands but I still feel a deep sadness for having to leave these kids. This is purely selfish because I think that they are the greatest, and were the brightest part of my weeks.

At our holiday party we made icing covered gingerbread men... and I really do mean COVERED. Giving kids sugar apparently leads to icing everywhere, who knew? Well I did but I didn't tell my fellow leaders that. Though in my defense I did warn them about small rolly things!

We had an absolute blast playing games, decorating cookies and singing songs. I'll miss them all terribly but when I come back I'll be able to watch what they've grown into as well as be able to better teach and mold younger ones.

Awesomely Weird Tournament

A few weeks ago I had the please to join in a very strange tournament at the game store I frequent. It was a Santa themed amazeballs Thunderdome type event! It was loud, fast, and so much fun! Seriously! I had a blast with these guys.

I rather um... intelligently decided that I was going to play this tournament the day before my big move (another post, another time). Now this tournament was rather difficult, let me explain some rules then post a picture which I am very much so stealing from Lost Hemisphere who has a fantastic podcast of nerdiness!

So rules!

You may bring 5 casters, 3 must fight per round, you get heads that other people take from you when they kill you. The one with the most kills wins.

This tournament was the brain child of Captain Spud.

Simple right? Yes, but amazingly fun and crazy amounts of weird! The point of this is to act fast and kill things.

I made the mistake of taking casters I had never played before, not the best of ideas, but I did learn how to play them rather well after the end of the day.

Here are some photos of the board and game play:

A Very Wintery Paint Exchange

At the game store I go to they had a winter season paint exchange, this allows players to paint outside of their factions and enjoy seeing what other people in the store's community can do. I was given the Iron Lich Overseer from the Cryx faction, now if you don't know much about Warmachine let me tell you this. Cryx are very mean, undead meanies! Well not all undead but mostly. I've been use to painting rather living models so this was a change for me. Fun, but still a change.

I painted it to the best of my ability, I think next time I get a Cryx model to paint I will be able to do it much better.

Here is a photo of the completed figure (again stolen from Lost Hemisphere):

And here is the miniature that got painted for me (which I am so very in love with!):

There are many more photos of the paint jobs on Lost Hemisphere's facebook page so if you did miniatures I would go check him out.

My ever changing army list and other things!

As the New Year has begun I must say that this past year wasn't what I would expect it to be. It's been filled with ups and downs. I've lost people in my life and even though they aren't in my life any longer I still very much so wish them all the best. This is the year for change and new beginnings! I start school in a few days and boy am I nervous! I'm so lucky to have the people in my life that I do, I don't think I would have been able to make this transition so well without my boyfriend, my friends and family. (Including my game store family). Life changes faster than we know it, one second you are comfortable where you are, the next you are uprooting your life and starting a new adventure!

So I've changed to Menoth! Yes I know Khador is fantastically awesomely beatstick... But lets be real here: I like setting stuff on fire! It makes my inner self squee with excitement and isn't that really what this game is for? To set stuff on fire and take focus for everything on fire? Oh yes did I mention Feora is awesome! Mhm! So here is my Menoth list (so far) I have more casters than I know what to do with so I might keep switching casters out but for now this should keep me busy. I'm going to play it through and paint it for Templecon. It's a 50 point army, let me know what you think.

I'm not one to make resolutions, infact I usually see no point to them. But as this year is a brand new year, lets just put something down here. My goal this year is to take my time on this earth and create more positivity! It's something I feel this world is lacking, so I will make every effort to have my world be more positive! I encourage anyone reading this to do the same.

So let me say this in closing. Happy new beginnings, Happy New Year, Bonne Anné!
